From cinematographer Mike DeGruy and the team behind Blue Planet comes a rare look at the oceans' hidden treasure trove of exotic sharks – underwater volcanoes. In the eastern Pacific, encounter hundreds of sharks as divers explore two underwater volcanoes that have become magnets for a wealth of marine life. Both rise from the depths of the Abyssal Plain, forcing cold, nutrient-rich waters towards the surface. These waters provide the base of a feeding chain that ends in the mouths of the ocean's top predators.

At Cocos Island, a young volcanic seamount breaks the skin of the Pacific, drawing an array of sharks and other predators to this oasis in the desert of the open ocean. Dubbed "Shark Island" by the few who have dived here, its pristine waters are a haven for sharks, where hundreds of fins ripple the waters. Giant shoals of Hammerhead sharks gather in shallow water, resting after a night among the rocks below or feeding on squid rising from the deep. Watch as porpoises, giant mantas and even the occasional whale shark swim by. In the blue water, schools of silky white-tip reef sharks gather, cruising or resting by day and hunting among every volcanic crevice by night.

By daylight, presenter Mike de Gruy explores the surface waters, wearing a special helmet that allows him to transmit a running commentary as he descends through huge schools of big eye jacks and Creole fish. See spawning aggregations of black triggerfish and striped Surgeonfish; cleaning stations with Barber fish and Goatfish; and underwater caverns filled with thousands of other species – each a potential snack for the schooling sharks.
